“Every Second Counts: Modernizing Cancer Screening to Save Lives”

On 15 July, iBeChange was presented at the European Parliament during the event “Every Second Counts – Modernising Cancer Screening to Save Lives”, hosted by Seán Kelly MEP and organised by the European Alliance for Personalised Medicine (EAPM).

We were honoured to be among a select group of EU4Health-funded projects invited to take part in the “Showcase of EU Cancer Screening Projects.” The session highlighted innovative approaches to bridging the gap between research and real-world impact in cancer prevention and early detection.

Representing iBeChange, Marianna Masiero of the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO) shared how behavioural science and digital tools can play a transformative role in cancer prevention. Her presentation emphasised the importance of co-designed, personalised interventions that empower citizens not only to detect cancer earlier, but also to prevent it altogether.

Marianna highlighted three key areas:

  • The behavioural barriers that limit participation in cancer screening
  • Strategies to increase uptake through digital nudges and targeted outreach
  • The importance of evidence-based tools to support behavioural change, especially for underserved communities

Her contribution reinforced a vital message: even the most advanced technology cannot deliver impact without engagement, equity, and access.

We are proud to see iBeChange contributing to Europe’s cancer prevention strategy and thank Marianna for representing the project at this important event.
